Footprint Farm

City Heights

Footprint Farm is a regenerative urban farm dedicated to growing healthy, sustainably raised food while inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.

Footprint Farm is a regenerative urban farm in Southeast San Diego founded by educator and farmer Kristin “KK” Kvernland. Drawing on her background in urban agriculture and youth education, KK created the farm as a place where food production, environmental stewardship, and community engagement come together. The farm's name was inspired by her daughters' love of running barefoot and reflects a broader commitment to reducing our collective environmental footprint through climate-smart farming practices. Farming without synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, Footprint Farm prioritizes soil health, biodiversity, composting, water conservation, and other regenerative growing methods that nurture both the land and the community. Beyond producing fresh local food, the farm serves as an educational hub where children and families can connect with agriculture, learn where their food comes from, and develop a deeper appreciation for the natural world. Through partnerships with organizations such as Foodshed Cooperative, Southeast Community Church, and UC San Diego's Growing Equity Initiative, Footprint Farm is helping build a more equitable, resilient, and locally rooted food system for San Diego.
