Allicins Ranch grows garlic in North Idaho and Baja California, following the seasons and tending much of the crop by hand. Though they aren’t based in San Diego, Ben and Claire Ronniger’s care for the soil and their seasonal visits to the Leucadia Farmers Market make them a meaningful connection to our local food community.
Allicins Ranch follows the garlic season across North Idaho and Baja California. Ben and Claire Ronniger have spent more than two decades growing garlic with close attention to the land, using practices such as crop rotation, cover crops, organic soil amendments, and hand planting and harvesting. Their work reflects the kind of ecological care we look for in the growers we share with our community.
Their farms are farther from Cardiff than most of our partners. Still, garlic grown at this scale with this level of care is worth making room for in our boxes. And the relationship feels closer than a map suggests: as they travel south toward Baja, Allicins Ranch visits the Leucadia Farmers Market seasonally, giving our neighbors a chance to meet the people behind the garlic.
