Why we started

Why We Built Ours

We built the box we wanted to receive.

We became farmers because we wanted a closer relationship with our food: where it was grown, how it was grown, and who grew it.

Traditional CSAs can provide that connection, but their rigid schedules and repetitive boxes do not work for everyone. Larger delivery services offer tremendous convenience and selection, but often create more distance between the customer and the farm.

We wanted to bring those strengths together: the transparency and relationships of a small CSA, with more of the flexibility people expect from a modern delivery service.

    We work directly with farmers whose growing practices we understand. When a farm is not certified organic, we explain the practices behind its food rather than asking you to take a label on faith.

Yasukochi Family Farms offers generous boxes and strong value for households that use a large amount of produce. The company describes its produce as grown using responsible farming methods, with organic methods used when possible, rather than presenting the entire box as certified organic. Its website does not identify the producing farm for every item, so it offers less item-level sourcing transparency than ours. But if quantity and value are your highest priorities, Yasukochi may be the better fit.

It offers thousands of products and considerably more choice than any farm box compared here. It is closer to an online grocer than a traditional CSA, and producing farms are generally not identified at the item level. If selection, customization, and one-stop shopping matter most, Misfits may be the strongest option.
