Last week was crazy — in the best possible way.
In preparation for our HOMEMADE pizza dinner — a special send-off for our dear friends Andrew and Jaida, who have lived at the Tiny Farm for the past two years — I somehow found myself knee-deep in some big projects.
The first was installing our brand-new farm sign, beautifully designed and crafted by Mau, who was part of the original team that helped build Cardiff Tiny Farm back in 2020. Having him create the sign made it feel even more meaningful. Watching him work — calm, focused, totally in his craft — was such a joy, and seeing the finished sign go up was a highlight of the week.
That same afternoon, 20 yards of mulch and 8 yards of compost arrived from San Pasqual Valley Soils. The delivery driver pulled off some jaw-dropping maneuvering to navigate our tight corners and place both loads exactly where they needed to go. Then it was up to me to move those mountains of wood chips and soil.
Somewhere in the middle of that effort, another project emerged: terracing our fireside seating area. The idea came from a private dinner back in October, when we shifted guest tables closer to the open fire pit to make room for a dance floor (where we usually positon our tables). We immediately discovered how magical the new layout felt. The only issue was that the tables were propped up on blocks to stay level… charming, but not exactly professional. And since we run a very legit and extremely serious tiny farm operation :) I knew some day I had to build real terraces.
And of course, the perfect moment was… while I was already exhausted and moving mulch. But it just felt right — like the farm nudged me into it. I had 48 hours to pull it off, and somehow, it came together beautifully. We now have multiple seating configurations for future dinners and events (told you we’re fancy).
So yes — that’s my alibi for why there was no newsletter last week.
But the farm has never looked better, and as we move closer to our final seasons here I’m more excited than ever to share this space with as many people as possible.
Come visit us on Saturdays during the farm stand, or just drop by and say hello. I’m usually out back working and would love to show you around.
Here’s to making as much beauty in the world as we can — together.
